We are really excited to join just a handful of UK companies that are members of the global 1% for the Planet network.

Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard (founder of Patagonia) and Craig Mathews (founder of Blue Ribbon Flies) the 1% network consists of more than 1,200 member companies across 40 countries and since 2002 members have contributed over $175 million to the protection of ecosystems including forests, rivers, and oceans.

Through our Feet for Feet model we actually already give more than double the minimum requirement which obviously comes at a cost (our own margin!) but we wouldn't have it any other way and it's awesome to be part of such a powerful network.

Can 1% really have an impact…?

The combined turnover of the FTSE 100 is somewhere in excess of £1 trillion…if they all joined 1% for the Planet then the impact (around £10bn) would be huugggeeee:

  • LandWe could acquire 100,000,000 acres or 400 billion square meters (source: World Land Trust, based on global average of £100 an acre)

  • Carbon We could offset 1.5 billion metric tons of carbon (source: Carbon Fund)

  • Water Through water restorations certificates, we could restore over 28 trillion litres of water in stream and river projects that would directly restore economic and ecological vitality of fresh water ecosystems (source: Bonneville Environmental Foundation)

So, in short, 1% can and is having a massive impact which is why we’re excited to be joining the global network.

We believe in making good products that stand the test of time and, through our Feet for Feet model, protect habitat. We are working hard to do this whilst having the smallest possible impact on the environment. We want to use business as a force for good which is why we’ve joined the 1% for the Planet community.
